It is the mission of the Fire Marshal’s Office to protect our citizens, visitors and their property from the perils of fire, explosions, unsafe construction and other hazardous conditions. Jason Brown serves as Fire Marshal for the City of Anniston.
This mission will be accomplished through fire prevention education, fire investigations and compliance inspections following the applicable regulations of the City of Anniston and the State of Alabama. We will actively participate with our community, serve as role models, and strive to effectively and efficiently utilize all resources made available, to provide safety and excellent customer service to the citizens and visitors of the City of Anniston.
Fire prevention is carried out by speaking to civic groups, schools, town councils, community groups, and others on the subject of fire prevention and emergency operations.
The Fire Marshal’s Office also assists with code analysis and enforcement, fire prevention, training, and actively attempting to lower Insurance Services Office ratings for lower insurance premiums for citizens living in our fire district. Our current ISO Rating is a Class 2.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and the Anniston Fire Department are committed to supporting all events in the City of Anniston by providing medical and rescue services. Our Command Staff will work directly with you to create a custom, event-specific Public Safety plan for you, and will serve as your one stop shop for all Public Safety staffing requests. Please see the general guidelines below in reference to various types of events that frequently occur in our City, as well as a general timeline for all events from a Public Safety perspective. All food trucks have to be inspected before a license or event permit can be issued by the City.
There are two (2) main requirements to begin operations of a food truck (mobile food unit) in the City limits of Anniston:
On October 9, 2021, the Anniston City Council passed Ordinance #21-O-16 requiring the registration of vacant and abandoned properties within the City. This vacant property registry will provide our municipal government with contact information relative to the responsible parties of abandoned, foreclosed and vacant properties. The associated vacancy registration fees required by this ordinance will also help offset the cost incurred by our Building and Safety Division in their efforts to monitor and address these vacant properties.
