Ciara Smith-Roston is the Mayor of Anniston, Alabama, with a strong commitment to public service and community impact. She is an Anniston High School alumna (Class of 2017) and a graduate of Spelman College (Class of 2020). She earned her Master of Public Administration from Jacksonville State University and is currently pursuing a law degree at Faulkner University, Thomas Goode Jones School of Law.
Mayor Smith-Roston began her career in public service at the age of 16 in the City of Anniston Finance Department, gaining early insight into local government operations. While in college, she expanded her political and civic experience through internships and programs, including interning with Congressman Hank Johnson of the United States House of Representatives, Apprenticeship through JP Morgan & Chase, participating in a mayoral campaign in Atlanta, joining the Congressional Black Caucus Institute training program, and being selected as a Forbes 30 Under 30 fellow.
In November 2020, she was elected as the youngest-ever Councilmember and Vice Mayor of Anniston. Building on that experience, she was elected Mayor in 2025 notably as the youngest and first African American, continuing to prioritize transparent, effective, and community-focused governance. She serves on various boards and committees. Her leadership emphasizes lasting impact, innovation, and responsiveness to the needs of residents.
Mayor Smith-Roston is married and a proud mother, balancing her professional responsibilities with a deep commitment to family and community. Her mission is still the same – impact over everything.
